Snowy Roads? Here’s our 5 tips!

We don’t get a ton of snow around here, but when we do, the roads can get dangerous. No matter what kind of car or truck you have, and how good a driver you think you are, driving in snowy and icy conditions can lead to an accident in the blink of an eye. Before you hit the road, review our top five tips for staying safe!
1.) Is your car safe to begin with? Are your tires in good condition? Are your brakes tight? Those little things we take for granted on a normal day of driving are amplified, and your vehicle needs to be in top shape if you’re driving in these conditions. 

2.) Easy on the gas, easy on the break: Applying the gas slowly to accelerate is the best method for regaining traction and avoiding skids. Don’t try to get moving in a hurry. And take time to slow down for a stoplight. It takes longer to get going or to stop.

3.) Keep your distance: Double the average distance you’d leave behind a car, and keep an eye on who’s behind you. Even if you’re being safe, that doesn’t mean others are. Keep your distance so you aren’t the victim of their mistakes.

4.) Don’t stop unless you have to: If you see a red light in the distance, start slowing down. Hopefully it’s green by the time you reach it, or at least you’ll be going so slow at that point that stopping is much easier. Treat turns similarly. If your turn is coming up, slow down to the point that you could stop, but you can also make that turn without pressing the gas.

5.) Lastly, just stay home. If you don’t have to be somewhere, don’t go! Stay in and enjoy the weather. Make some tea, and watch a movie.

No nos cae una tonelada de nieve por aqui, pero cuando cae, las carreteras puenden ponerse peligrosas. No importa que tipo de automovil o camion tenga, ni que tan buen conductor cree que es, conducir en condiciones de nieve y hielo puede provocar un accidente en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Antes de salir a manejar, revise nuestros cinco consejos principales para mantenerle seguro.

1.) Es su carro seguro para empezar? Estan sus llantas en buenas condiciones? Estan sus frenos ajustados? Esas cosas pequenas que damos por hecho en un dia normal al volante se amplifican, y su vehiculo debe estar en la mejor forma si conduce en estas condiciones.

2.) Acelere despacio, frene con calma: aplicar el acelerador lentamente es el mejor metodo para recuperar la traccion y evitar patinar. No trate de acelerar a toda prisa. Y tomese el tiempo para reducir la velocidad en un semaforo. Lleva mas tiempo ponerse en marcha o detenerse.

3.) Mantenga su distancia: duplique la distancia promedio que dejaria entre usted y el automovil de enfrente y vigile al auto detras de usted. Incluso si usted esta manejando con seguridad, eso no significa que los demas tambien lo esten. Mantenga la distancia para que no sea victima de los errores de ellos.

4.) No se detenga a menos que deba hacerlo: Si ve una luz roja en la distancia, comience a disminuir la velocidad. Quiza hasta se cambie a verde para cuando llegue, o al menos ira tan ddespacio en ese momento que sera mucho mas facil frenar. Haga lo mismo al dar vuelta. Si se esta acercando a su vuelta, disminuya la velocidad hasta el punto en que pueda detenerse, o que pueda hacer ese giro sin presionar el acelerador.

5.) Por ultimo, solo quedese en casa. Si no tiene que estar en algun lugar, no salga! Quedese y disfrute del clima. Haga un poco de te y vea una pelicula.
